Baltic Ports

Rich in history and tradition, Copenhagen is a great city for sightseeing. You'll be greeted by a sculpture of the Little Mermaid on the harbour-side, a tribute to the city's famous writer Hans Christian Andersen. A stroll down Stroget will reveal the longest pedestrian street of anywhere in Europe and it's full of chic cafes, shops and boutiques. There's no shortage of palaces and castles such as Rosenborg Castle, which was once home to the Royal family and now serves as a museum showcasing many ancient artefacts including the crown jewels and coronation chairs. One of the city's star attractions is the Tivoli Gardens which lies at the heart of the city. Here you'll find picture perfect gardens, beautiful flowers and a world-renowned amusement park.

Helsinki is a city of well-designed architecture and great cultural facilities. With both Russian and Swedish influences, there is a real mixture of classic medieval buildings and super-sleek modern skyscrapers, creating an unusual but impressive skyline. The focal point of the city is Senate Square, where you will find the Government Palace, Helsinki University, the National Library and the famous Helsinki Cathedral. Market Square is a bustling, lively area filled with rows of market stalls and tents all selling local handicrafts, food, flowers, jewellery and clothing. Inside the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art you'll find a great range of modern artwork as well as music and dance events, readings and seminars, and the nearby National Museum houses a vast range of exhibits from pre-historic and present day history.

Oslo is situated in picturesque surroundings, framed by snow-capped mountains, dense forests and rolling hills. The city has much to offer with fantastic shops and street cafes, as well as a variety of cultural attractions including theatres and museums. Head to the Akershus Castle for spectacular views of the city and surrounding fjord. Originally used as a fortress, a tour of the castle will reveal secret passageways and magnificent halls. A must-see in Oslo is the Viking House Museum which contains a collection of Viking Age artefacts including sledges, carts and jewellery, as well as three impressive Viking longboats that date back to the 9th century.

Stockholm is made up of 14 islands and many small islets all connected via a web of bridges and boats. The most popular area of the city is its historic old town, Gamla Stan. Here you will find narrow cobbled streets lined with ancient buildings that are now transformed in to street cafes, restaurants and boutique shops. Explore the Storkyran Cathedral, with its Gothic design and famous statue of St George and the Dragon, or take a tour of the Royal Palace where you can see fine tapestries and furnishings as well as the ornate state apartments.

St Petersburg

This former Imperial city is filled with stunning architecture and has a rich cultural heritage. There are many must-see attractions but the most popular tours are of the Hermitage Museum and Catherine Palace. The Hermitage Museum was once a vast palace that now features one of the greatest art collections in the world, and includes pieces from many famous artists like Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Monet and Renoir. The decor of the former palace is still spectacular and can be seen in the many painted ceilings, ornate furnishings and sweeping staircases that adorn its interior. Catherine Palace is an extravagant building with a distinctive blue and white facade. Golden domes sit atop the palaces' chapel and the many rooms are filled with sumptuous furnishings and ornaments.

Tallinn is a charming city with a medieval past that is still evident today. Its architecture is a mix of Russian and Polish, and much of its Old Town has remained the same for the last few hundred years. Many of its cobbled streets are filled with small shops selling lacework and jewellery, and a stroll down Catherine's Passage will reveal numerous workshops where ceramics, glass and leather goods are made. In the upper part of the old town is Toompea Hill where you'll find some of the oldest buildings in the city. St Mary's Cathedral is commonly referred to as the Domed Church and has a stunning baroque altar. Palace Square is dominated by the Alexander Nevesky Cathedral, a Russian Orthadox church with a distinctive domed roof and golden crosses.

With a wonderful mixture of old-world charm and modern day hustle and bustle, Stavanger is surrounded by natural beauty and blessed with a rich history. The old quarter is filled with markets and small shops selling local crafts, and its cobbled streets are lined with white wooden houses dating back to the 18th century. Nearby is the striking Stavanger Cathedral and the Canning Museum which showcases the importance this industry was for Stavanger. Take a trip to the Lysefjord and you'll witness some of the most beautiful scenery in Norway, with forest-covered mountains, cascading waterfalls and the Pulpit Rock that towers over 1,800 feet in to the sky.

Bergen has a stunning mountain backdrop and is the perfect place to explore the surrounding Fjordlands from. The waterside district of Bryggen is a World Heritage Site, with many of its well preserved colourful Hanseatic buildings now used as boutique shops and cafes. A tour through one of the remaining warehouses exhibits the way they were run and the cramped living conditions for the workers. For spectacular views over Bergen and the surrounding landscape, head to the top of Mount Floien. It's easily accessed via the funicular which will take you over 1,000 feet above sea level, and the many walking trails show off the very best of Bergen's scenic lakes and mountains.

This picturesque port town of Geiranger is without doubt one of the most popular destinations in Norway. Sailing through Geirangerfjord you will witness some truly breathtaking scenery, from sheer cliff faces to gushing waterfalls. Included in this is the Seven Sisters waterfall which consists of seven separate streams, with the tallest plummeting some 820 feet in to the water below. Geiranger also gives you the opportunity to come face-to-face with one of the most spectacular glaciers in Europe, the Briksdal Glacier. Organised walking tours will take you through the mountainside and across the river to see the blue-green ice up close.
